چکیده

PURPOSE To compare two inverse planning algorithms, the hybrid optimization (HIPO) algorithm and simulated annealing (IPSA) algorithm, for cervical cancer brachytherapy provide suggestions their usage. MATERIAL AND METHODS This study consisted of 24 patients treated with CT image-based high-dose-rate using various combinations tandem/ovoid applicator interstitial needles. For fixed catheter configurations, plans were retrospectively optimized methods: IPSA HIPO. The dosimetric parameters respect to target coverage, localization high dose volume (LHDV), conformal index (COIN), sparing organs at risk (OARs) evaluated. A plan assessment method which combines a graphical analysis scoring was used quality each case. characteristics dwell time distributions also analyzed in detail. RESULTS Both HIPO can produce clinically acceptable treatment plans. rectum D2cc slightly lower as compared (P = 0.002). All other targets OARs not significantly different between algorithms. generated radar plots scores intuitively presented properties enabled reflect clinical priorities Significant observed by CONCLUSIONS algorithms could generate high-quality plans, but performances terms specific patient. decision on optimal patient be made quickly consistently help method. Besides, distribution suggested taken into account during selection. Compared IPSA, may closer preference.

Inverse planning for combination of intracavitary and interstitial brachytherapy for locally advanced cervical cancer

The main purpose of this study was to compare three different treatment plans for locally advanced cervical cancer: (i) the inverse-planning simulated annealing (IPSA) plan for combination brachytherapy (BT) of interstitial and intracavitary brachytherapy, (ii) manual optimization based on the Manchester system for combination-BT, and (iii) the conventional Manchester system using only tandem a...

Comparison of IPSA and HIPO inverse planning optimization algorithms for prostate HDR brachytherapy

Publications have reported the benefits of using high-dose-rate brachytherapy (HDRB) for the treatment of prostate cancer, since it provides similar biochemical control as other treatments while showing lowest long-term complications to the organs at risk (OAR). With the inclusion of anatomy-based inverse planning opti- mizers, HDRB has the advantage of potentially allowing dose escalation. Amo...

Comparison of two planning systems for HDR brachytherapy gynecological application

PURPOSE This report compares the Nucletron NPS and PLATO planning system for patients treated for cervix cancer. MATERIALS AND METHODS This study compares calculations generated using the older NPS (version 11.43) planning system and the more recent PLATO (version 14.1) system for two cases: 1) a single dwell position and 2) an actual patient application using a tandem and ovoid. RESULTS Fo...

Comparison of dose volume parameters evaluated using three forward planning – optimization techniques in cervical cancer brachytherapy involving two applicators

Purpose This study is intended to compare dose-volume parameters evaluated using different forward planning- optimization techniques, involving two applicator systems in intracavitary brachytherapy for cervical cancer. It looks for the best applicator-optimization combination to fulfill recommended dose-volume objectives in different high-dose-rate (HDR) fractionation schedules. Material and ...
